NIGER DELTA: NDDC, Atlantic Global Resources Inc sign deal on $15bn railway project

The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, and the United States-based Atlantic Global Resources Inc have signed a $15 billion deal on the development of a railway in the Niger Delta.
The important project is planned to interconnect all the states in the region, including Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Abia, Imo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Edo, and Delta, thus enhancing the massive movement of goods and persons.
Speaking at the event in Lagos, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Umana Okon Umana, said the project, to be executed under Public-Private Partnership, PPP, would enhance economic development in the Niger Delta.
Similarly, the Managing Director, of NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, said: “History has been made today. This ceremony is to showcase the benefit that will come later.”
In his keynote address, the Executive Secretary, of Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board, NCDMB, Simbi Wabote, said the NDDC under the new leadership should do things differently in order to achieve sustainable economic development in the region.
