Ørsted’s First Green Hydrogen Project Kickstarts in Denmark

Dan Jørgensen, heading Denmark’s Climate, Energy, and Utilities Ministry, inaugurated the H2RES project, which kickstarted onsite construction in what will be Ørsted’s very first clean hydrogen project, according to FleetMon.

It stated: “Ørsted’s Avedøre Holme in Copenhagen will be home to the first project and will have a total capacity of 2 MW initially. Combining electrolyte and fluctuating ocean wind power sources, the project aims to explore how two Siemens Gamesa 3.6MW wind turbines can be best used.

“Every day, the offshore installation will be generating around 1000 kg of hydrogen, all sourced from renewable resources. The energy would be utilized in the Greater Copenhagen region for carrying out zero-emissions power supply. Along with other stakeholders, Orsted has actively invested on nine sustainable hydrogen projects spread across the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, and UK, among European nations.

“The nine projects include the project H2RES, and the ‘Green Fuels for Denmark’ project. However, it’s interesting to note that this has been accomplished by Ørsted in less than three years!

“The Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Program (EUDP), administered by Denmark’s Energy Agency, have allocated another DKK 34.6 million for the H2RES project construction. The project, head by Ørsted, has other European Green Energy companies like NEL Hydrogen A/ S, Green Hydrogen Systems A/S, Everfuel Europe A/S, DSV Panalpina A/S, Hydrogen Denmark and Energinet Elsystemansvar A/S.”

“H2RES will be a small, but very important first step in realizing Ørsted’s large ambitions for renewable hydrogen, which has fast proven itself as a centerpiece in the green transformation of the European economy to net-zero emissions by 2050,” said Anders Nordstrøm, Vice President and Head of Ørsted’s hydrogen and PtX activities.

With headquarters in Denmark, Ørsted has been crowned as the ‘most renewable energy enterprise’ in the 2021 Edition of the World’s Top 100 Most Sustainable Companies.
