Uniper, a German energy company, and Vesta Terminals, a Dutch enterprise, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to evaluate the feasibility of expanding and refurbishing an existing ammonia storage facility in the Netherlands, according to FleetMon.
It stated: “The companies plan to develop the existing ammonia storage facility into a new energy hub, named Greenpoint Valley, and start operations by 2026.
“The storage site undertaken for this project is situated in Vlissingen, Netherlands. The facility currently has 60,000 cubic meters of ammonia storage capacity. Vesta has stated that they are negotiating for additional space in the facility.
“With the additional space, the facility will be able to potentially hold more than double its initial storage capacity of ammonia. When operational, the ammonia hub is expected to have an initial throughput of 0.96 million tons per annum (mpta).
“Later, in its second phase, the facility will be connected to the Dutch Hydrogen pipeline network and can be scaled up to have 1.92 mpta of ammonia throughput.”
