The Miray Cruises’ “GEMINI” will act as a shelter for refugees displaced due to the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Turkey, according to FleetMon.

It stated: “The vessel will be docked at the Port of Iskenderun, Turkey, until March 15th, while it houses earth quake victims.

“Miray Cruises has offered the vessel as an emergency shelter for the refugees. In addition, the cruise line has offered to furnish the housing on board the ship and provide 24-hour medical care as well. Special activities will be organized for the children onboard. A spokesperson for the cruise has stated that the company might volunteer more cruises for earthquake relief if needed.

“The GEMINI is a 19,093 gross ton vessel with a capacity for 1,074 guests. The cruise is furnished with several bars, restaurants, lounges, duty-free shopping, a swimming pool, and a spa area. It is unknown whether these facilities will be repurposed to serve the refugees as extra sleeping quarters, storage space, or a temporary schoolroom.

“The ship is intended to serve as a shelter for refugees until March 15th, following which it is intended to go on a short cruise of Greek islands.”
