Russian cruise ship contacted breakwater, damaged in Turkey

A Passenger ship ASTORIA GRANDE (ex-AIDACARA) collided with a breakwater at around 0900 LT on January 18, 2023, while trying to enter Amasra port, Turkey, Black sea coast, according to FleetMon.

It stated: “The ship with 385 passengers and 283 crew on board arrived from Sochi Russia, and tried to dock at Amasra in rough weather, so strong wind is said to be the cause of an accident. ASTORIA GRANDE left the harbor and sailed further to sea, cruising off Amasra, to wait out the weather.

“It is said also, that the ship might suffer underwater hull damages, she’s to be surveyed by divers.

“Passenger ship ASTORIA GRANDE (ex-AIDACARA), IMO 9112789, GT 38531, built 1996, flag Palau, operator Aquilon, Moscow.”
