MARITIME ACCIDENT: How Container ship catches fire in Shanghai

A Container ship, ZHONG GU TAI SHAN, has caught fire in Shanghai, according to FleetMon.

It stated: “Late at night Jun 19 fire erupted in engine room of container ship ZHONG GU TAI SHAN while the ship was sailing in Shanghai approach channel, en route from Nakhodka Russia to Shanghai.

“MRCC Shanghai responded and sent SAR ships. The ship was towed to safer place and anchored, so that she doesn’t hinder traffic. Of 22 crew, 14 were evacuated, 8 remained on board.

“Fire was said to be under control, ship’s AIS on. As of morning Jun 21, the ship remained anchored, with patrol and SAR ships nearby.”
