COVID-19: Indian Master hospitalized, the crew under quarantine

Tanker ARK PROGRESS arrived at Dumai, Indonesia, Malacca Strait, on Apr 28, from New Mangalore, India, for a cargo of palm oil, according to FleetMon.

It stated: “Several days later Master complained of having breathing difficulties and fever, he was taken to hospital and sure enough, tested positive. All 23 Indian crew were tested, 4 are under self-quarantine, Master as of May 6, remained at the hospital.

“Other crews are healthy, cargo operations continue, with of course, all the safety measures taken. Interestingly, Indonesian Maritime Authorities said in a recent statement with regards to this case, that the crew though Indians, weren’t in India for a long time, contradicting the ship’s track records – tanker left New Mangalore on April 18, 2021.
