AEES holds World Environment Day on June 5, 2021

The Africa Energy and Environment Summit, AEES, and other stakeholders have concluded plans to hold this year’s World Environment Day, WED, on June 5, 2021, at 10 am West Africa Time, WAT.

The event will be held in support of the United Nations theme, Ecosystem Restoration, taking place in Pakistan, will also witness the launch of the ‘UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration’.

However, in the statement obtained by The Daily, www.thedaily-ng.com, the organizers disclosed that discussions will be global and local in order to address issues in Africa in general and Nigeria in particular.

Specifically, it stated that Professor Hilary Inyang, a Globally Renowned Geoenvironmental Researcher, Expeditionist and Educator, who is also the former Duke Energy Distinguished Professor of Environmental Engineering and Science and Global Institute Director at the University of North Carolina   Charlotte USA, and Consultant to UNESCO on Water Security, will speak on, “Greening the Economy: A Framework for Citizen Engagement.”

It also disclosed that Victoria Ohaeri, Executive Director, Spaces for Change, an SXSW 2013 honoree, Desmond Tutu Fellow, and Harvard University alumnus with over 15 year-long legal careers and involvement in social and economic rights research and advocacy, will speak on, “Legal Issues Associated With Environmental Hazards in Africa: The Case of Nigeria.”

According to the organisers, Victoria has traversed Africa, Europe, North America, and South America, leading research investigations, documenting and exposing human rights violations, formulating and analyzing social and economic policy at national, regional, and international levels.
