Tianjin Port Group has concluded plans to build an Artificial Intelligence (AI) zero-carbon terminal, according to FleetMon.
It stated: “Working towards the zero carbon emission goal, Tianjin Port Group has announced that they will be building an Artificial Intelligence (AI) zero-carbon terminal.
“It will be the first of its kind in the world, where AI will be used to reduce carbon emissions at a port. At the Green and Safe Port Conference 2021 organized by China Ports and Harbors Association, the Tianjin Port Group announced that their AI project will be using integrated solar, wind, and storage systems through a common platform to realize the dream of supplying green energy to the whole terminal.
“To maintain a stable output of green energy, the company will be additionally building up an integrated energy storage system. The terminal equipment such as loading cranes, transport vehicles, and other auxiliary production equipment will be electric driven. It was said by the group that the introduction of automation in the traditional loading and unloading technology will bring down the energy consumption by 17%.”
Deputy General Manager of Tianjin Port Group Kexin Facilities Department, Chen Yanping, said that based upon the throughput calculations, in the initial phase the company will install two wind turbines and put photovoltaics on roofs to produce green energy. With the growth in terminal throughput, the energy demand will rise, and to match it, the company will be installing two additional wind turbines in the future.
Vice President of Tianjin Group, Mr. Yang Jiemin said that their AI terminal, Section C of Tianjin Port, will be self-sufficient in terms of green energy.
He said that in the future Tianjin Port will be taking this AI-powered terminal as the starting point for promoting and accelerating the new age of green port development.
