The Coalition of United Political Party, CUPP, has urged Christians to use the occasion of the Easter celebration to pray for Nigeria.
The party said that the country was in a very terrible state, which required urgent divine intervention.
The CUPP in a good will message to Christian faithfuls by it’s Chairman, Contact and Mobilization Committee, CUPP, Rev. Olusegun Peters, called for fervent prayers for God’s intervention to redirect the ship of the nation from its current perilous course.
The umbrella body of the opposition political parties also tasked public office holders on patriotism and accounbility to ensure good governance.
According to Rev. Peters, ”The state of the nation is bad, very bad and needs divine intervention to save it from its perilous course and redirect the ship of the nation to the path of rectitude, development and advancement.
”It is time for patriotism. Time to hold public office holders accountable and ensure good governance and provision of dividends of democracy to longsuffering compatriots in accordance with Section 14 (2)b of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended, which provides that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.
”The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) felicitates with Christians in the country on the occasion of this year’s Easter celebrations and enjoins them to reflect on the pious life of the Lord Jesus Christ, his crucifixion and resurrection for the redemption of mankind.
‘:Christ’s death on the cross and his resurrection which Easter symbolizes is the cornerstone of the Christian doctrine and practice. Christians should therefore, use the occasion to renew their faith and passion for Jesus Christ and imbibe his virtues of love, peace, compassion, tolerance and sacrificial life.
::As Easter symbolizes a new beginning, may God renew our minds and strength to build a strong, virile, progressive and just democratic nation.”
