WEOG Lagos Unveils Comprehensive Business Directory for Women in the Energy, Oil, and Gas Sectors

By Eyo Nsima

Paving the way for an inclusive future in the traditionally male-centric energy, oil, and gas sector, Women in Energy Oil and Gas (WEOG) Lagos Chapter has initiated the roll-out of a dedicated business directory. This pioneering move stems from the evident adversities that women entrepreneurs have historically faced in Nigeria, especially within this sector.

Insights from our in-depth study highlight acute financial setbacks, which are primarily anchored to the unpredictability of Nigeria’s economic landscape. Women-led businesses, in particular, grapple with these financial uncertainties, often navigating through the tumultuous terrains of an erratic market. A glaring void in financial management proficiency is another impediment for numerous women entrepreneurs.

However, the financial constraints represent merely a segment of the overarching challenges engulfing women in the industry. Gender-biased roadblocks persistently inhibit many women-led businesses from realizing their true potential.

In light of these pressing concerns, WEOG Lagos has embarked on a mission to shift the paradigm. With a track record of championing gender parity within the sector, WEOG Lagos has meticulously pinpointed the capacity deficiencies and roadblocks that these women-led ventures encounter regularly. Armed with this knowledge, the organization aspires to curate specialized solutions and resources, propelling women to excel.

The directory is comprehensive, encapsulating not just business listings but also an array of resources, mentorship programs, and networking opportunities. It is envisioned as an all-encompassing hub for women entrepreneurs in search of guidance, mentorship, or partnerships.

“This directory isn’t just a roster. It symbolizes empowerment, support, and unity,” expressed Joan Faluyi, the helm of Offshore Dimensions and the Chapter Director of WEOG Lagos. “We are acutely aware of the distinct hurdles women encounter in this sector. Through this initiative, we aim to equip them with an arsenal of resources.”

The directory’s unveiling has been welcomed with resounding applause, signaling a beacon of hope for many. “Such interventions have been long overdue. The sidelining of women-led enterprises in the energy, oil, and gas industry needs to be addressed head-on. This directory might just be the catalyst we needed,” opined Adejumoke Oyedun, MD/CEO of ACME Multitech Services Limited and Deputy Chapter Director, WEOG Lagos.

“It’s not just about bridging the gap,” reflected Nnenna Maduabum, MD of Numad Energy Integrated Services Limited and External Relationships Director, WEOG Lagos, said: “It’s about sculpting a new landscape.” Echoing these sentiments, Lucy Okeke, Head of Environment Community and Sustainability at NMDPRA and Chapter Secretary, WEOG Lagos, posited that such endeavours herald a brighter horizon for women-led ventures in the sector.”
