Fire has erupted in the superstructure of the livestock carrier ELBEIK, anchored off Tarragona, in Spain, according to FleetMon.

It stated: “Fire erupted in the superstructure of livestock carrier ELBEIK, anchored off Tarragona, Spain, Balearic sea, in the afternoon Aug 6. The fire reportedly started in a compartment or cabin on a deck below the bridge deck and quickly spread around. 18 crew were evacuated by Spanish SAR boat Fomalhaut.

“Fireteam boarded the ship, tugs with water cannons were deployed. As of 1700 UTC, Aug 6 firefighting was still ongoing, the latest report hinted at the bridge being also engulfed by flames. The ship’s AIS off during last 5 hours. There are no cattle on board, the ship was waiting for cattle loading.”
