Spaces for Change, S4C, a non-profit organization working to infuse human rights into social and economic governance processes in Nigeria, has concluded plans to present a report – From Exclusion to Inclusion in National Just Transition Plans – on December 9, 2022, at Leola Suites, 1 Mogambo Close, Maryland Estate, Ikeja, Lagos.
The report, according to S4C, “probes the alternatives placed before communities and non-state actors whose livelihoods are dependent on fossil fuel extraction and local refining against the backdrop of the global energy transition. This research was supported by Ford Foundation and Africa Centre for Public Policy (ACEP).”
In a brief obtained by The Daily, www.thedaily-ng.com, S4C, stated: “Country commitments to tackle climate change has led to global energy transition aspirations. Different countries have determined the pace at which to engage in that transition. Nigeria is determined to use gas as its transition pathway to reduce emissions to achieve Net Zero by 2060 and drive economic growth. Given previous unsuccessful attempts to unlock gas, a realistic and deliberate approach is required to achieve those ends.
“S4C will unveil its report ‘Exclusion to Inclusion in National Just Transition Plans’ to CSOs, host communities, and the media. The research probes the alternatives placed before communities and non-state actors whose livelihoods are dependent on fossil fuel extraction and local refining against the backdrop of the global energy transition. This research was supported by Ford Foundation and Africa Centre for Public Policy (ACEP).”
