Eroton Exploration & Production Company, an indigenous oil and gas producing company has recorded a fire outbreak at the Akaso field in its Oil Mining Lease, OML 18.

In a statement obtained by TheDaily-Ng, the company’s spokesperson, Mercy Max-Ebibai, said the incident culminated in the release of hydrocarbons into the environment, followed by a fire.

She stated: “An oil-laden wooden boat was initially observed in the vicinity and a loud bang was also reported. This resulted in the fires drifting to two wellheads, only one of which is still aflame at the point of reporting.”

The spokesperson disclosed that an Emergency Response Team, ERT, has started working with the company’s well control engineers and an experienced wild well control vendor to repair the facility.

She added: “We continue to appreciate the effort of the authorities, and the entire oil and gas industry to stem these incessant, unfortunate, and expensive incidents.”
