NIGER: Military junta’s proposal not acceptable — ECOWAS

The Commissioner for Political Affairs, Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, Abdel-Fatau Musah, said the military junta’s proposal to remain in government for three years is not acceptable to the regional group.
General Abdourahamane Tchiani, leader of Niger’s military had told General Abadulsalami Abubakar-led peace delegation in Niamey, weekend that the military would return Niger to civilian rule in the next three years.
But the rejection of the proposal indicates that ECOWAS and Niger’s military are gradually moving toward a military confrontation.
