NCDMB inaugurates technical board to drive oil, gas innovation

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has inaugurated a Technical Advisory Board (TAB) to strengthen the assessment, development and commercialisation of research, innovation and technology solutions for Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

The board was inaugurated in Lagos last week by the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, NCDMB, Mr Omomehim Ajimijaye, on behalf of the management.

Speaking at the inauguration, Ajimijaye said the initiative underscored NCDMB’s commitment to promoting innovation-driven growth and developing indigenous technologies to address challenges across the oil and gas value chain.

He said the TAB would provide expert technical evaluation and advisory support in the assessment, selection, development and advancement of research, innovation and technology projects.

According to him, the board would identify and promote solutions that address industry needs while demonstrating potential for deployment, scalability and commercialisation.

Ajimijaye added that the board would ensure that innovative ideas and technologies receive the technical scrutiny and guidance required to improve their maturity and readiness for industry adoption.

He said the initiative was also aligned with NCDMB’s mandate to promote Nigerian content and strengthen local technological capabilities in the oil and gas sector.

The TAB comprises representatives of key stakeholders across the industry and research ecosystem, including NCDMB, the Independent Petroleum Producers Group (IPPG), Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN), Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Research and Technology Innovation (RTI) units of NNPC Limited, Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Petroleum and Chemical Technology Solutions (PCTS), Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS) and independent research experts.

The board’s broad-based membership is expected to provide multidisciplinary expertise in evaluating emerging technologies, research proposals and innovation initiatives, while strengthening collaboration among industry, academia and regulatory institutions.

Members expressed appreciation to NCDMB for the opportunity to contribute to research and technology development in Nigeria’s energy sector, pledging to deploy their expertise to support the innovation agenda and promote solutions capable of delivering value to the industry and the nation.

The inauguration marks another step by NCDMB towards building a sustainable innovation ecosystem, strengthening local technological capacity and improving the competitiveness of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
