MARITIME: Tanker fire, crew evacuated in Korea

A fire erupted on board tanker FALCON CHEMIST at around 2340 Seoul time Aug 19 in the Yellow Sea, some 43 nm west of Gunsan, Korea, according to FleetMon.

It stated: “Tanker was ballasting from Changshu China to Taesan, Korea. Korean Coast Guard and maritime emergency agencies responded all 16 crew were evacuated.

“Fire understood to erupt in the engine room, by 1315 Seoul time Aug 20 fire was extinguished, after the firefighting system was activated. The disabled tanker is to be towed to Yeosu.”
