There were speculations that a Russian general cargo ship has been grounded in West African waters since February 5, 2023, according to FleetMon.

It stated: “Information isn’t confirmed yet, so the ship’s ID is on hold. The ship is of river-sea type.
“A number of Russian river-sea type general cargo ships are prowling African and Middle East waters, mostly West African, quite unusual event both in numbers and in it – river-sea type ships aren’t supposed to trade at high seas, let alone oceans.
“AIS records are compromised, missing voyages history. An unusually high number of Russian ro-ro ships, meanwhile, are gathered in Indian waters. What’s all about is anyone’s guess.”
