MARITIME: Global accidents drop by 6.5% to 357 incidents in 5 months

Global accidents in the maritime sector dropped by 6.5 per cent to 357 incidents in the first five months of 2023, from 382 recorded in the corresponding period of 2022.

A breakdown showed that 73, 76, 61, 80 and 67 incidents were recorded in January, February, March, April and May 2023 respectively; while 90,77,69,75 and 71 accidents were recorded in January, February, March, April and May 2022 respectively.

According to data collated from FleetMon report, 176 persons died as a result of the accidents in the first five months of 2023, indicating an increase of 69.2 per cent when juxtaposed against 104 persons that died in the corresponding period of 2022.
