The Degage group of French Polynesia has taken delivery of the “APETAHI EXPRESS,” a high-speed catamaran constructed by Austal Vietnam, the Vietnamese shipyard, according to FleetMon.
It stated: “The vessel is scheduled for its inaugural voyage in July 2023. After successfully undergoing a series of sea trials off the coast of Vung Tau, the “APETAHI EXPRESS” will embark on its maiden voyage to French Polynesia. The vessel will be deployed on the route between Pape’ete (Tahiti) and Vaitape (Bora Bora) in French Polynesia.
“The catamaran features an overall length of 66.4 meters, a beam of 15.2 meters, a draft of 1.8 meters, and two passenger decks, accommodating approximately 574 passengers. Additionally, it offers around 80 seats on an external sun deck. The crew is provided with seven two-berth cabins and two single-berth cabins for their accommodation. The vessel is equipped with four ramps for passenger access and has a cargo capacity of approximately 16 tonnes, which can be loaded using two cranes.
“The “APETAHI EXPRESS” achieved a top speed of 38 knots during sea trials. The catamaran is powered by four diesel engines and four waterjets, incorporating Austal’s Motion Control System, including active interceptors and T-foils, and the latest MARINELINK-Essentials program.
“Austal has optimized the aluminum hull design to enhance efficiency and reduce fuel consumption, improving fuel efficiency and passenger comfort.”
