MARITIME ACCIDENT: Small cruise ship disabled by fire in Alaska

A fire erupted in the engine room of the cruise ship WILDERNESS DISCOVERE in Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska, in the morning of June 5, 2023, according to FleetMon.

It stated: “There were 51 passengers and 15 crew on board, USCG and nearby cruise ship SAPPHIRE PRINCESS quickly responded and evacuated all passengers and non-essential crew.

“Fire was extinguished by the crew, by sealing off the engine room and activating the CO2 system. WILDERNESS DISCOVERE has been disabled, she was taken on tow of tug TAKU WIND (IMO 8991700) at around 1930 LT, and the caravan was underway as of 2100 LT Jun 5, reportedly to Ketchikan.”
