A Cement carrier XING SHUN NO 1 was abandoned by the crew in the afternoon of October 31, 2022, in Taiwan Strait some 35 nm SW of Taichung Taiwan, according to FleetMon.

It stated: “Cement carrier XING SHUN NO 1 was abandoned by the crew in the afternoon of October 31, 2022, in Taiwan Strait some 35 nm SW of Taichung Taiwan, after engine failure, in rough weather conditions brought by typhoon NALGAE.

“Of 17 crew, 5 who went into a life raft were rescued by a passing container ship, 12 in a lifeboat are still missing, SAR is underway. XING SHUN NO 1 was en route from Vietnam to Taichung Taiwan, she expected in Taichung in the afternoon of October 31.

“As of 0500 UTC Nov 1, the status and condition of the ship are unknown, she might remain afloat.”
