MARITIME ACCIDENT: Cursed tanker engulfed by fire after second explosion

In the evening of July 3, 2023, when a cargo of diesel and petroleum was transferred from tanker O.T. SHAGOR NANDINI-2 in STS operation, another explosion rocked the tanker, this time in the cargo tanks area, according to FleetMon.

It stated: “The fire engulfed the tanker and moored to her smaller tanker-lighter. O.T. SHAGOR NANDINI-2 superstructure was destroyed by an explosion and fire on Jun 30 in Sugandha River, Bangladesh, but cargo tanks remained intact. This time, the tanker became a burning inferno; at least 14 people have been injured or burnt.”

Previously, it had stated: “Bangladeshi product tanker O.T. SHAGOR NANDINI-2 suffered explosion and fire in superstructure on Jun 30 in Sugandha river, Bangladesh. The tanker with diesel fuel and petroleum on board was to offload cargo at Padma depot, but due to the holiday, she wasn’t allowed to berth and commence offloading.

“Explosion and fire destroyed superstructure, leaving cargo tanks and cargo intact. Of 11 crew on board, 4 with burns were rescued, and 7 went missing. Product tanker O.T. SHAGOR NANDINI-2, dwt 1000, owner SHR Navigation Company Ltd., Dhaka.”
