Leave NDDC alone, Clark warns Akpabio
The Ijaw National leader and Chairman, Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Chief Edwin Clark, has warned the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Chief Godswill Akpabio to stop intervening in the internal affairs of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
He said the frequent intervention in what should be the internal affairs of the NDDC has affected its smooth operations, and by extension, the Niger Delta.
Specifically, he said: “The problem we have is the constant interference in the NDDC by the minister. There’s no provision in the NDDC budget for the completion of the Eastwest road.
“I don’t know why the road is not under the Minister of Works. We are asking the federal government to make special funds available for the completion of the road.”
Clark, who disclosed this while welcoming the Interim Administrator of the NDDC, Effiong Okon, to his country home, urged Akpabio to live above personal interests and discharge his duties as the supervising minister with the interest of the Niger Delta region at heart.
He also asked the Federal Government to set aside a special fund for the completion of road while requesting the youths to give peace a chance for development to take place.
However, Okon had promised that the EastWest road would be completed within six months.
