How sickness hits crew in Canada, third mass poison-like case

Bulk carrier THOR MAGNCHILD, docked at Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada, called emergency services at night Feb 18 reporting 6 of the ship’s 24 all-Thai crew fell ill with diarrhea and vomit, according to FleetMon.

It stated: “When paramedics arrived, they found that the situation was much worse than initially reported – 17 crew suffered the same symptoms, so all of them have been taken to hospital for check and treatment.

“Later on Feb 19, some of them already returned to the ship after their health improved, it was expected, that the majority of the hospitalized crew were to return to the ship soon. THOR MAGNCHILD arrived at Trois-Rivieres on Feb 16 from Alumar Brazil, via Oranjestad, St. Eustatius, a small Dutch island in the Caribbean.”

It added: “Canadian authorities expressed their concern, fearing that this sudden mass illness might be somehow caused by omnipresent covid, its’ Brazil variant, though food poisoning is understood to be the main version.”
