FleetMon has disclosed that “Analysis of published photos and ships near Danube Delta (usual waiting site for ships about to call Ukraine), whose AIS are off during last 24-48 hours (as of 0130 UTC Nov 9), allows to assume that the stricken ship is, most likely, Philippines Capesize bulk carrier KMAX BULKER (IMO 9436642, dwt 91800).”
It stated: “She’s to load cargo of iron ore, bound for China. Ship’s ID, of course, is yet to be confirmed or refuted, though in general, hiding the names of stricken ships seems to be unnecessarily cautious measure.
“It might be said that it was probably, a stray missile, with bulk carrier being so to say, collateral damage, but war is war and aggression is aggression, having no justification at all.”
Earlier, FleetMon had stated: “According to official statements and media reports, on Nov 8 Russian missile hit Liberia-flagged cargo ship which was about to enter port in Odessa Region (not Odessa, most probably Yuzhniy port near Odessa), severely damaging bridge and superstructure.
“Unfortunately, pilot on board was killed; three Filipino crew members have been wounded. Ship’s name wasn’t disclosed, and according to AIS maps and data, all ships calling Ukrainian ports in Odessa Region switch off their AIS transmitters, for security/safety reasons.”
