How Anker damaged oil jetty in Chittagong

Product tanker GRAND ACE 8 contacted the oil terminal jetty in Chattogram, Chittagong, Bangladesh, on Sep 30, while berthing, according to FleetMon.

It stated: “Tanker arrived from Malaysia and Thailand with 35,074 tons of diesel oil on board, part of which was lightered at anchorage, to allow the tanker to enter the port.

“Dolphin Jetty-5 is owned by Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) via subsidiary Meghna Petroleum Limited, and reportedly, sustained heavy damages, amounting to Tk16 crore (some $1,9 mil, if my convert calculations are correct – V.M.).

“According to port and terminal authorities, the accident was caused by faulty anchoring mechanisms. Tanker understood to be in charter.”
