Flutterwave appoints former Access Holdings CFO Olufemi as global CFO
Flutterwave has appointed former Access Holdings Group Chief Financial Officer, Morounke Olufemi, as its new Global Chief Financial Officer, strengthening its executive leadership as the payments company expands its financial services across international markets.
Olufemi, who has served as Flutterwave’s CFO for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) since joining the company in June 2025, takes over from Mitesh Popat, who has stepped down to co-found a new venture.
The new Global CFO brings more than 24 years of experience spanning banking, corporate finance, strategy and mergers and acquisitions.
Before joining Flutterwave, Olufemi was Group CFO of Access Holdings Plc, where she played key roles in major capital-raising and corporate transactions.
Her achievements at Access Holdings included the raising of $300 million in Additional Tier 1 capital in 2023 and a major rights issuance programme in 2024 to support the recapitalisation of the group’s banking business in line with Central Bank of Nigeria requirements.
She also led complex mergers and acquisitions that resulted in the creation of the second-largest pension fund administrator in Nigeria.
Announcing the appointment, Flutterwave Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Olugbenga “GB” Agboola, said Olufemi’s performance in her current role had positioned her for the global assignment.
“As Flutterwave enters the next phase of its sustainable growth, I am excited to announce Morounke as our new Global CFO. Over the past year, she has effectively led Flutterwave’s EMEA financial operations and has a proven track record, particularly from her recent experience at one of Africa’s largest financial institutions,” Agboola said.
He added: “Morounke has demonstrated that she is the financial leader we need at this moment.”
Olufemi said her immediate focus would be on financial discipline, margin expansion and sustainable profitability.
“I am excited to step into the global CFO role. Our financial trajectory remains firmly on course,” she said.
“We will continue executing our strategy with a focus on capital discipline, margin growth, and sustainable profitability, while giving global finance leaders total control over their working capital as well as access to multi-currency liquidity and stablecoin settlement.”
The appointment comes as Flutterwave continues to expand its payments and financial services infrastructure connecting African businesses with global markets.
The company said its strategic priorities, capital allocation models and long-term financial goals remain unchanged following the leadership transition.
Agboola described Popat’s departure as part of Flutterwave’s culture of developing leaders who can go on to build new ventures.
“I take pride in building an environment where exceptional talent and leadership can thrive because I believe that great companies nurture future founders,” he said.
Agboola thanked Popat for his leadership over the past two years and said the company supported his decision to pursue a new venture.
Flutterwave said Olufemi’s experience in banking, corporate finance and complex M&A transactions would support the company as it scales its operations and strengthens its financial governance.
The company has also strengthened its financial services portfolio through strategic investments, including its acquisition of open-banking firm Mono.
