Fire has destroyed ferry BENIAMINO CARNEVALE at around 2345 UTC January 11, 2022 in Tyrrhenian Sea, according to FleetMon.

It stated: “Fire on board disabled ferry BENIAMINO CARNEVALE at around 2345 UTC Jan 11 in Tyrrhenian sea some 40 nm west of Napoli, Italy. The ship with passengers and vehicles on board is en route from Napoli to Cagliari, Sardinia.

“Understood fire was in engine room, disabling ferry. She started to drift, and as of 1440 UTC Jan 12 was still adrift west of Ponzo Island, or maybe sailing at dead slow speed.

“The plan is, according to Italian Maritime Authorities, to disembark passengers and tow ferry to port, but operation is hampered by stormy weather.”
