BREAKING: FG opens Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, Nigeria

After many months of closure for maintenance, the Federal Government has opened the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, Nigeria for use.
The Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Mr. Olukayode Popoola, disclosed on Sunday, that the total shutdown of the Bridge would be opened at midnight of January 31, 2021.
According to him, “The casting of the expansion joints was completed on Saturday. Therefore, the Third Mainland Bridge will be opened by 12 midnight of January 31, 2021.
He added: “Motorists can start plying the bridge as from 12 midnight.”
Investigation in the early hours of Monday, February 1, 2021, showed that many motorists have started making use of the Bridge.
However, some, not yet aware of the good news, were seen still using the Ikorodu and other alternative roads to the Lagos Island, Ikoyi, Lekki, Aja, and other destinations.
Popoola had, on January 27, 2021 announced a three-day total shutdown of the bridge from midnight of Friday to midnight of Monday, February 1, 2021, in order to properly fix three expansion joints of the bridge.
