ENERGY TRANSITION: Euroseas welcomes Eco Newbuild MV Terataki

By Our Correspondent

The Greece-based shipowner and operator, Euroseas, has successfully taken delivery of its latest fleet addition, the “M/V TERATAKI.

According to FleetMon, “This new vessel marks Euroseas’ second eco-friendly newbuild and was constructed by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co. in South Korea.

“The “M/V TERATAKI” stands in compliance with the stringent Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEDI) Phase 3 standards, attributing this achievement to its Tier III engine. Ships conforming to Phase 3 regulations represent a significant advancement in design, focusing on enhanced fuel efficiency and reduced emissions compared to their earlier counterparts.

“Notably, the vessel possesses the capability to connect to shore power, which considerably minimizes energy consumption during port stays. This feature is enabled by the inclusion of Alternative Maritime Power (AMP) technology, facilitating direct connection to onshore power facilities. Traditionally, ships keep their engines operational while docked to power onboard activities. The integration of technologies like AMP contributes substantially to emission reduction during these periods.

“Seven out of the nine new vessels within Euroseas’ fleet are to be equipped for LNG usage. All these ships will adhere to the EEDI Phase 3 standards and will incorporate AMP installations, underscoring the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
