The Chartered Institute of Directors Nigeria (CIoD) has inaugurated its annual Leadership Bootcamp for Directors Programme in Barcelona, Spain, attracting directors from various sectors of the economy.
The 2023 edition, declared open by CIoD’s President Alhaji Tijjani Borodo, is centered around the theme “Directors’ Role in Driving Business Transformation and Succession Planning.”
In his opening remarks, President Borodo underscored the inevitability of constant change and transformation in the contemporary business landscape. He commented, “Operating in a business environment characterized by uncertainty and unpredictability has been a constant factor for organizations. This is even more pronounced in the last decade due to the remarkable intensity of changing technology, socio-political, economic, climate, and regulatory changes.”
Highlighting the significance of adept boards, Borodo stated, “Firms that reinvent themselves through constant transformation stand the chance of surviving the tide of change in the new decade. Such firms need adept boards that will lead the needed transformation. For any transformation to be sustainable, it must be matched with effective succession planning.”
Encouraging participating directors, Borodo commended their commitment and urged them to plan their 2024 training calendar to include new director development programs introduced by the Institute. These programs cover megatrends such as environmental and social governance, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, strategic disruptions, business analytics, and digitalized oversight.
The Bootcamp, running until Friday, December 15, 2023, aims to enhance directors’ capacity to navigate the challenges of a rapidly evolving digital economy. The CIoD’s efforts to keep directors technically sound, agile, and proactive align with the fast-paced nature of the digital era. As directors engage in discussions on emerging trends, the event provides a platform for networking and knowledge exchange among industry leaders, fostering a collaborative approach to addressing the complexities of contemporary business environments.
