AI, Data Analytics Take Centre Stage at African Energy Week 2026
Artificial intelligence, AI, data analytics and digital technologies are set to play a growing role in Africa’s energy investment landscape as Digital Energy AI Founder, Morgan Eldred, and Electron Intelligence Co-Founder and Managing Director, Joseph Ibeh, join the speaker lineup at African Energy Week, AEW 2026, in Cape Town, South Africa.
The event, scheduled for October 12-16, will bring together energy companies, investors, policymakers and technology providers to examine how digital tools can accelerate project development, improve investment decisions and reduce risks across Africa’s oil, gas, power and renewable energy sectors.
Electron Intelligence is heading to AEW 2026 following its July 2026 partnership with Terraspect, which combines continent-wide energy market intelligence with AI-powered project due diligence.
The partnership is aimed at improving the screening, financing and execution of renewable energy projects across African markets, where investors continue to face challenges around project bankability, market information and regulatory uncertainty.
The development followed the publication of Electron Intelligence’s Africa Energy Transition Investment Report 2025, which tracked $13.84 billion in disclosed investments across 306 transactions in 43 African countries.
The report highlighted a significant gap between project announcements and actual deployment. While developers announced 74,461 megawatts, MW, of new generating capacity, only 14,589MW reached installation.
According to the report, permitting delays, inadequate transmission infrastructure, foreign exchange constraints and limited grid readiness remain among the major barriers preventing announced projects from reaching completion.
Electron Intelligence also expanded its market intelligence portfolio in 2026 with the launch of the Africa Import Tariffs Report, covering 12 years of customs data across 15 African markets, and the Africa Power Financial Benchmark, designed to support the evaluation of listed power utilities.
Digital Energy AI, meanwhile, joins AEW 2026 after recording a series of developments aimed at applying artificial intelligence to industrial energy operations.
Its latest health and safety platform processes field incident reports in less than one minute and has reportedly achieved an 80 percent improvement in reporting accuracy compared with conventional processes that can take between 20 and 30 minutes.
The company’s predictive optimisation technology has also recorded a 40 percent reduction in operational emissions by improving heavy-vehicle scheduling, cargo logistics and resource allocation across complex industrial supply chains.
The growing adoption of AI and data analytics comes as African energy markets seek to attract more capital while improving the efficiency and speed of project development.
For investors, access to reliable market intelligence and digital due diligence can help identify viable projects, assess risks and improve capital allocation. For operators, AI-driven systems can support predictive maintenance, safety management, logistics optimisation and emissions reduction.
According to NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber, AEC, the increasing use of digital technologies will be critical to Africa’s next phase of energy development.

The convergence of energy investment and digital technology is expected to remain a key theme at AEW 2026, particularly as African countries seek to expand power generation, develop oil and gas resources and accelerate the deployment of renewable energy while improving project execution and attracting international capital.
