Top cheapest depots to buy petrol, diesel as Dangote leads market

By Eyo Nsima

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has retained its position as Nigeria’s cheapest source of petrol and diesel, while Matrix, Sigmund and Sobaz emerged among the country’s most competitive private depots, according to the latest Daily Depot Price Intelligence Report.

The report for Wednesday, August 5, 2026, showed that marketers seeking the most competitive ex-depot prices would find the best bargains in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Warri and Calabar, where intense competition has kept prices within a narrow band.

Top cheapest petrol (PMS) depots

Dangote Refinery offered the lowest petrol price nationwide at ₦1,165 per litre, maintaining a substantial price advantage over other depots. The reduction is expected to strengthen the refinery’s market share as independent marketers continue to seek cheaper loading points.

Among other depots, the cheapest PMS suppliers were:

Depot Location Price (₦/Litre)
Dangote Lagos 1,165
Sobaz Calabar 1,214
Soroman Calabar 1,214
Matrix Port Harcourt 1,215
Sigmund Port Harcourt 1,215
Matrix Warri 1,217
A.Y.M Shafa Warri 1,217

The report also showed that the highest petrol depot prices ranged from ₦1,217 per litre in Calabar to ₦1,220 per litre in Warri, indicating that competition has narrowed the pricing gap among most depots, with Dangote remaining the clear outlier.

Top cheapest diesel (AGO) depots

For Automotive Gas Oil (diesel), Dangote Refinery also maintained the country’s most competitive ex-depot price at ₦1,570 per litre.

Other competitive diesel depots included:

Depot Location Price (₦/Litre)
Dangote Lagos 1,570
Bulk Strategic Warri 1,630
Matrix Warri 1,630
Bulk Strategic Port Harcourt 1,630
Matrix Port Harcourt 1,630
Fynefield Calabar 1,650

Competition intensifies

Industry analysts said the pricing pattern reflects growing competition among depot operators as marketers search for the lowest-cost supply sources.

They noted that Dangote’s aggressive pricing continues to put pressure on rival depot owners to reduce prices in order to retain customers, especially as marketers increasingly compare ex-depot prices before making purchases. The latest price movements also suggest that product availability has improved, helping to keep prices relatively stable across the country’s major petroleum hubs.

With Dangote maintaining a ₦49 per litre advantage over the next cheapest petrol depots and a ₦60 per litre discount on diesel compared with the nearest competitors, market watchers expect many marketers to continue sourcing products from the Lekki-based refinery, provided logistics and transportation costs remain favourable.
