“The Prosecutor General of Russia on September 6, 2023, gave the status of “Unwanted Organization in Russia” to the International Transport Federation ITF, and its’ Russian branches, including SUR – Seafarers Union of Russia. Such status imposes very serious restrictions on the activities of organization or person, sometimes including criminal persecution.

“Too early to say what will be the results. Obviously, it won’t change anything for Russian seamen working in non-Russian, foreign companies, and as for Russian shipowners, they’re already under sanctions, while countries which trade with Russia, usually prefer to close eyes on sanctions against Russian ships, so with or without ITF contracts, trade will go on.”
