Bulk carrier EUROSUN runs aground in Sri Lanka

Bulk carrier EUROSUN loaded with cement clinker ran aground on southeast coast of Sri Lanka, NE of Hambantota, around 0000 UTC Jan 23, while en route fromAbu Dhabi to Trincomalee, according to FleetMon.

It stated: “As of 1330 UTC, the ship was still aground, no news yet on refloating and possible damages. Bulk carrier probably, ran onto reefs, not on coast.”

It added: “EUROSUN run aground about 13 miles of Sri Lanka’s Yala coast near the Little Basses Light house, in a areas referred to as Middle Basses, on the reefs.”
