Niger State Board of Internal Revenue, BIR, Monday, shut several institutions and eight banks over alleged tax liabilities, amounting to N456million.
In a statement obtained by The Daily, www.thedaily-ng.com, Executive Chairman of the Board, Alhaji Mohammed Madami Etsu, disclosed the tax defaulters to include, Stanbic IBTC (N113.2 million) Polaris Bank (N74.8 million), Union Bank (N47.1million), First Bank (N45.7 million), Heritage Bank (N31.5 million) Unity Bank (N14 million), GTB (N8.2 million), AEDC Plc with N45.8 million, AloeVera International Hotel (N3.9 million) and Rashida Restaurant, which outstanding was put at (N3.2 million).
According to him, the closure became necessary as all efforts to get them to pay did not yield any results.
However, he called on businesses in the State to pay their tax liabilities to avoid embarrassment.
