MARITIME: How Swiss offshore vessel ran onto embankment in Kiel Canal

FleetMon has disclosed how an offshore support ship GEOQUIP ELENA struck embankment in Kiel Canal at around 0240 UTC November 12, 2023 shortly after passing Rader Hochbruke Bridge, while transiting Canal in northern direction, en route from Netherlands to Gdansk Poland.

It stated: “The ship went off embankment by own means, but wasn’t allowed to resume transit, and has been taken to Rendsburg by two tugs, where she remained berthed as of morning November 13, 2023.

“No information yet on damages, and the cause of accident.”
