Maritime Accident: Post-Panamax container ship disabled by fire

 

The ship is under tow of tug VIRGO (IMO 9276676) in southern Red sea, from King Abdullah Port SA to Dubai, ETA Jan 31. Towage commenced on Jan 8, after understood, completing containers offloading, according to FleetMon.

It stated: “Container ship NORTHERN JUBILEE suffered fire in engine room on Dec 18 in Red sea while sailing in southern direction, after transiting Suez Canal. Fire was extinguished by activated CO2 firefighting system, but the ship was disabled, and had to be towed to King Abdullah Port, Saudi Arabia.

“Understood engine room sustained serious damages, the ship is to offload all her cargo, and meanwhile, she’s powered by shore generator. She was en route from Bahamas to probably, King Abdullah, or Sri lanka.”
