Bulk carrier NEMRUT BAY ran aground on De Britto Bank in the morning of June 21, 2023, 10 nm off Binh Thuan Province coast, southern Vietnam, according to FleetMon.
It stated: “The ship was approaching the port of destination Vung Tau from Korea, with 25510 tons of steel on board. Salvage is still underway as of Jul 10, or to be exact, it entered a new phase. NEMRUT BAY refloating attempts understood to fail, lightering has become necessary, and on Jul 10 general cargo ship PHUONG NAM, 98 arrived at the site, to offload part of the cargo.
“Four tugs are reported to be at the site, though only one is seen on AIS radar. No information on the ship’s damages, but no leak was reported, either. The bottom the ship is resting on is sand, limestone, and reefs. NEMRUT BAY AIS is off since grounding.”
