Iranian crude oil tanker grounding during Suez Canal transit

Iranian Aframax tanker SAHRA has run aground on the 123-kilometer mark, Suez Canal, below Great Bitter Lake, at around 1000 UTC Feb 1, 2021, according to FleetMon.

It stated: “Iranian Aframax tanker SAHRA ran aground on the 123-kilometer mark, Suez Canal, below Great Bitter Lake, at around 1000 UTC Feb 1, while transiting Suez in northern direction, en route from Kharg island oil terminal Iran to Mediterranean region, probably for ship-to-ship transfer.

“Tanker was refloated in about 1-2 hours and taken to Great Bitter Lake, where she was anchored, and as of morning Feb 2, remained at anchor. The southbound convoy had to stop to wait until the canal was cleared.”
