Heirs Energies Launches Sun Books Literacy Initiative on International Literacy Day 2025

In commemoration of International Literacy Day 2025, Heirs Energies OML 17 Joint Venture has launched the Sun Books Literacy Initiative in partnership with the World Literacy Foundation in Rivers State. This pilot program will directly benefit over 500 pupils and teachers across two of our OML-17 host community schools: Central State Primary School, Omuohia-Igwuruta, and Umuebulu Primary School, Umuebulu.Through this initiative, classrooms will be powered with renewable energy solutions and equipped with solar-powered tablets preloaded with curriculum-aligned content, alongside comprehensive teacher training to ensure lasting educational impact. This milestone exemplifies our Africapitalism philosophy: leveraging the energy we produce to deliver social good while creating sustainable economic value.Addressing Global Educational ChallengesThis initiative directly tackles a critical global challenge highlighted by UNESCO: over 770 million people worldwide lack basic literacy skills, with one in three Nigerian children unable to read or write at the expected level by age 10. Our program aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), demonstrating our commitment to integrated ESG solutions within the African energy sector. As our CEO, Osa Igiehon, emphasised: “Our investment in literacy is an investment in the next generation of leaders, innovators, and problem-solvers. With Sun Books, we are empowering children to dream beyond their circumstances and equipping teachers with tools to make learning engaging and inclusive.”Foundation for GrowthThe Sun Books Literacy Initiative establishes the foundation for our comprehensive Power Schools programme, where we will continue combining sustainable energy and education to create transformational opportunities in our host communities. This approach demonstrates how traditional energy companies can pioneer meaningful social impact through innovative clean energy applications. This program reflects our ongoing commitment to collaborative community development within our operational areas.Thank you for your continued support as we power Africa’s growth – not only through energy production, but through education, opportunity, and community empowerment.Follow our social media channels for more updates on this initiative and our ongoing community development programs.
