MARITIME ACCIDENT: How Barge broke free, beached in Sri Lanka

A Barge towed by tug AVADH on July 7, 2023, broke free and grounded on the beach of the southern coast of Mannar island, northwest Sri Lanka, according to FleetMon.

It stated: “Barge towed by tug AVADH on Jul 7 broke free and grounded on the beach of the southern coast of Mannar island, northwest Sri Lanka, Gulf of Mannar. “Barge was to be towed to Tutikorin, India, from Maldives, but judging from the track, tug went NUC on July 4, 2023, or earlier, and drifted with the barge to Mannar Island. Tug’s AIS is on, understood she’s trying to refloat barge.”
