A new container terminal has opened up in the Port of Cork in Ireland. The terminal has been named the Cork Container Terminal and is situated in Ringaskiddy, according to FleetMon.

It stated: “It will have a capacity of 330,000 TEUs per annum once it is fully operational.
“The new terminal has been opened at a deep water facility that is 13m deep, 360 m long, and can handle Panamax class vessels that can carry up to 4000 TEUs. The terminal cost around $86 million and covers an area of 135,000 m2.

“The port will generate around 400 truck movements daily. However, till the M28 road network connecting the city of Cork to Ringaskiddy is complete, the container terminal will operate at around 50% capacity.

“Ronan Murray, the President of the Cork Chamber stated that the construction of this terminal is a big step forward for both the port and the city of Cork. He went on to state that the new strategic terminal will demonstrate a higher efficiency than any European port, and will put on display, the global status of their region on international trade, connectivity, and innovation.”
