Young 38-year old Captain dies during voyage

Captain of general cargo ship CENTURY was reported, found dead in his cabin recently, while the ship was sailing off Central America coast in the Pacific, en route from Shanghai to Panama, according to FleetMon.

It stated: “38-year old Captain was to sign-off in Panama and understood, to return to his home, Ukraine. The ship arrived at Balboa anchorage on May 21, authorities were duly informed, but refused, nevertheless, to take Captain’s body and carry out formalities (most likely, out of covid fears).

“CENTURY remained at anchor until around 0100 UTC May 25, when she started moving, and as of 0815 UTC, was transiting Canal. Her final destination is unknown. Whether Captain’s body was taken ashore to hospital, or remained on board, is unknown.”
